Help available ahead of October 6th deadline

Thursday, 27 September 2018

With just a week to go until the October 6 deadline for the submission of personal income tax returns, Treasury has announced additional support to help people complete their forms online.

An out-of-hours telephone service will be available at the following times:

•        Thursday 4 October, 5.30pm to 8pm

•        Friday 5 October, 5pm to 8pm

•        Saturday 6 October, 10am to 2pm

Gerard Higgins, Business Solutions Group Manager with the Treasury’s Income Tax Division, said: ‘We have once again seen a marked increase in the number of people submitting their return online this year, and are ready to help more through the online process as the deadline gets closer.

‘Staff will be on hand during normal working hours, but also into the evening on Thursday and Friday and on Saturday itself to enable people to take advantage of the process.’

To assist new users, the online enrolment process can be completed to enable immediate submission of their return online. Call 685400 during normal office hours or through the out-of-hours telephone service.

Paper returns can be put through the letterboxes located at the front entrance to, or on the 2nd floor inside, Government Office.

If anyone requires a duplicate return, they should contact the Division immediately so that it can be issued and returned before the deadline.

If the Income Tax Division has not received personal tax returns for the year ended 5th of April 2018 by 11.59pm on Saturday 6 October, taxpayers will be charged a £100 penalty. If the return has still not been received by the Division by the 6th of April 2019, a further £200 penalty will be charged.

Even if the penalties are paid, the return must still be submitted and people may be prosecuted for failing to do so.

In this video, Gerard Higgins, the Income Tax Division’s Senior Policy Officer and Business Solutions Group Manager, explains how Online Tax Services enable people to:

•        Submit and view their tax return online

•        Receive instant confirmation of their tax return submission

•        Review assessments and balance details easily and securely

•        Make secure online payments

•        Have income tax refunds paid directly into their bank account
