Opportunity to help shape the make-up of public bodies

Tuesday, 9 October 2018

There is a unique opportunity for a member of the Manx public to play a role in appointing people to some of the Island’s public bodies.

The Council of Ministers is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed individual as a member of the Appointments Commission.

The Commission is responsible for considering applicants and making appointments to a number of the Island’s public bodies, including tribunals and statutory boards.

This could be the perfect opportunity for a public spirited individual with a few hours to spare a month to play a vital role in ensuring that public appointments are fair, open and transparent.

The position would commence on 1 January 2019, running for a period of five years.

No specific qualifications are required, however applicants should have a good understanding of Government and the wider public sector as well as experience of interpreting and applying complex legislation.

Access to a computer and email is essential as is a good level of IT skills.

The role will require someone with the ability to analyse and review complex issues, weigh-up conflicting opinions and identify appropriate actions.

There is usually one half-day meeting each month, although this can vary, and preparation time ahead of meetings will be required.

The appointment will require the approval of both the Council of Ministers and Tynwald.

Applications will be processed by the Cabinet Office.

Anyone who would like additional information should contact Kate Hooson-Owen on +44 1624 687562 or kate.hooson-owen@courts.im Tuesday to Thursday, 9.30am to 2.30pm.
