New Walk and Talk routes take in the Manx countryside

Thursday, 3 May 2018

The popular Walk and Talk scheme from Manx Sport and Recreation is ‘going green’ between May and August with new routes away from the towns, taking in more of the Manx countryside

Called Green Walk and Talk, the new routes will enable participants to enjoy the Island’s beautiful countryside during the warmer, drier summer months.

Lesley Patterson, of Manx Sport and Recreation, said:

'Walk and Talk continues to be very popular and we are excited to be expanding the scheme for the summer. The new ‘green’ routes take advantage of some of our Island’s wonderful amenities and stunning natural environments – such as Silverdale Glen, the Tynwald National Park and Arboretum in St Johns, South Barrule plantation and The Curraghs Widlife Park.'

Anyone can take part with a small fee of £2 per person per session which includes refreshments (Curraghs Wildlife Park session is £7). Most walks are flat with the occasional climb or obstacle, however participants must be able to cover a distance of two miles in 70 minutes or less. No pre-booking is required, participants can just turn up on the day.

Lesley added:

'2018 Year of Our Island is all about doing more and exploring more of what the Isle of Man has to offer and the things that make up our wonderful biosphere.

'Walk and Talk focuses on making gentle exercise such as walking more social and enjoyable, helping participants to form friendships and in the process encourages people to make exercising a habit.

'It’s a fun, friendly informal activity with no pressure or expectations. I really would encourage people to take the opportunity to come and explore more of the Island and improve their fitness and health in the process.'
