Government support to encourage more people to get into sport

Tuesday, 1 May 2018

A new initiative has launched to encourage adults of all ages and abilities to get involved in sport.

Called “The Swing of Things”, sessions take place at the National Sports Centre on Mondays from 9:30am – 11:30am along with new additional sessions on Wednesdays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm during school term times

Each session costs just £3.25 and includes refreshments.

Attendees can try out table tennis, badminton, short tennis, squash, racquet ball and pickle ball.

Qualified coaches will be present to assist, if required.

Once a month, a new sport will be on offer for participants to try alongside the established sports.

Lesley Patterson, of Manx Sport and Recreation, said:

'In line with our Strategy for Sport, we are encouraging people back into a sport that they perhaps haven’t played for a while as well as encouraging people to try something completely new.

'It’s about having fun, meeting new people and developing new skills.

'No one needs to worry if about their skills or level of fitness – this is about playing at your own level and enjoying what you do. We all have to start somewhere. I really would encourage people to give it a go and if they’re not sure or want some support or advice, to get in touch. We’re happy to help.'
