Winter Bonus to help keep the vulnerable warm

Wednesday, 19 December 2018

Each year the Treasury makes lump-sum payments, usually of £300, to around 2,300 vulnerable people and those on low incomes to help keep warm during the winter months.

The Winter Bonus is paid in January to pensioners, disabled people and others who receive means-tested income support. The annual payment helps them to meet higher heating bills during the coldest months of the year.

Providing the Winter Bonus costs the Isle of Man Government just under £700,000 a year and supports the Programme for Government objective of maintaining a Caring and Inclusive Society.

Ralph Peake MHK, Member of the Treasury with responsibility for Social Security, said:

‘People on low incomes can find it difficult to heat their homes during the colder months and the Winter Bonus is designed to make a real difference.’

He added:

‘Anyone who is entitled to the Winter Bonus doesn’t need to claim it – it is paid to them automatically.’
