The first group of Dental Nurse Apprentices to be supported by the Isle of Man Government’s Skills Development Scheme have been awarded Level 3 Diplomas in Dental Nursing.
Seven apprentices received the certificates with the support of the Scheme, which offers 100% of training costs towards foundational qualifications on a day release framework.
Graham Cregeen MHK, Minister for the Department of Education, Sport and Culture (DESC), said:
‘The Government is committed to growing the Island’s talented and skilled workforce, and vocational training plays an important role in enabling this to happen. We now have seven newly qualified Dental Nurses on the Island due to the support of one of the vocational training schemes being run by DESC and the hard work of the apprentices over the past two years.’
The trainees were assessed on a monthly basis in the workplace and supported in their training by a professionally qualified tutor.
The next cohort of Dental Nurse Apprenticeships is due to commence in January.
In addition to the Skills Development Scheme that the apprentices undertook, the Isle of Man Government also offers the Vocational Training Assistance Scheme (VTAS), which provides 30% of training costs towards shorter courses.
The Vocational Training Schemes are also currently supporting a number of apprenticeships and short course across a range of other industries, including, Care, Engineering, Finance and Marketing, as well as the more traditional Construction trades.
