A team of four students from the Island’s secondary schools have returned home having represented the Isle of Man at the International Linguistics Olympiad in the Czech Republic.

The competition, one of the 12 UNESCO recognised International Science Olympiads, took place at Charles University in Prague.

The Olympiad tests the code-breaking and problem solving skills of contestants from around the world in individual and team competitions.

The Isle of Man team was selected from the Isle of Man Linguistics Olympiad in February, with eighty-eight pupils representing all of the Island’s secondary schools taking part in the first round. The top eight performers took part in a second round, and the top four performers from that round were invited to form the team. They are Emily Gray, Alice Lowdon, Nathan Harmer and George Boles.
