Still time to have your say on health and social care review

Wednesday, 1 August 2018

There is still time for people to take part in a review that will help to shape the future of the Isle of Man’s health and social care services.

Sir Jonathan Michael is currently looking at options to provide a modern, fit-for-purpose system that meets current and long-term needs.

The deadline for written submissions is Wednesday 1 August, while the online ideas hub will remain live until Tuesday 7 August.

The online hub has been created to encourage constructive discussion and to gauge public support for the ideas that are posted.

More than 130 suggestions and 220 comments have been submitted so far on matters relating to the scope and delivery of services, quality and safety, funding, staffing, technology and the sustainability of services.

Members of the public can visit Healthcare Review for more information, to share their own ideas or to offer views on and rate other people’s suggestions.

People who have already submitted ideas are also encouraged to revisit the site as comments and ratings will provide an indication of the strength of public opinion about the ideas being put forward.

As well as contributing to the process via the online hub, Island residents are being invited to take part in focus groups and workshops to consider key aspects of the review in more detail.

A cross-section of the local community is needed to represent views from different perspectives. Anyone wishing to participate should contact the review team at DHSCReview@gov.im or 01624 650759 for further information.

The focus groups and workshops will support the overall gathering of evidence and help to present a practical and workable model for the future.

Sir Jonathan, who is also continuing to meet professionals working on the frontline of the Island’s health and social care services, said:

‘The level of public engagement so far has been very encouraging. I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet shared their ideas to visit the online hub before the deadline. Those who have put forward suggestions can revisit the site to comment on the ideas of other users.’

He added:

‘This is an opportunity for people to have their say on what the Isle of Man’s health and social care services will look like in the future and how they will be funded.’

Feedback from the different forums will be collected and used to inform the independent review of the Island’s health and social care services, which was established by Tynwald in January following a motion by Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK.

An interim report will be submitted to Tynwald in January 2019, with the final report presented for discussion at the May 2019 sitting.
