Bike 4 Life aims to help improve wellbeing and fitness this summer

Monday, 30 April 2018

Those who are interested in biking are being encouraged to sign-up for a new Bike 4 Life scheme by Manx Sport and Recreation.

Sessions will take place every Friday on the raceway at the National Sports Centre until 31 August 2018 (excluding 1 and 8 June) running from 12:30pm – 1:30pm and from 2:30pm – 4:30pm.

No pre-booking is required and the small fee of £2 per session provides participants with a helmet and bike – although participants are welcome to bring their own bikes.

A range of inclusive and specially adapted bikes including tandems, child/adult trikes, hand cycles, quad bikes and mountain bikes will be available for all participants to use.

Zoe Crowe, Disability Sports Development Officer, said:

'Our aim is for the Bike 4 Life scheme to encourage and inspire people to take up cycling and embrace a healthier lifestyle which is all part of our Strategy for Sport.

'Bike 4 Life offers a fun, safe and fully inclusive cycling environment for those riders who want to gain more confidence whilst socialising with family and friends.

'Regular exercise offers many physical and psychological benefits and cycling in particular is a healthy, low impact exercise that can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.

'It is a great opportunity for those trying to improve their fitness, recuperating from ill health or after an operation, individuals with long-term health issues or disabilities – or simply individuals who have low confidence when cycling.'
