Post Office prepares for busy Christmas Period at Douglas mail centre

Friday, 6 October 2017

Isle of Man Post Office will be making some alterations to its Customer Services Centre at Postal Headquarters this weekend ahead of the busy Christmas period.

A new storage facility to store packets and parcels will be erected within its Customer Services Centre which will aid the storage of notice left items during the seasonal period where mail volumes traditionally see an increase. With Island residents now having a wide choice for online shopping offering delivery to the Island, with the latest additions including Argos, George at Asda, Tommy Hilfiger, Zara, Adidas and Tesco Direct, more and more customers are opting to order goods online, particularly at Christmas, which has necessitated the need for the creation of the temporary structure. Isle of Man Post Office has already seen the start of online Christmas shopping with a growing increase in the volume of items being received into the Mail Centre each day. During the alteration work this weekend there will be no disruption to customers.

Ahead of Christmas, Isle of Man Post Office wishes to remind customers that there are a number of time-saving and convenient options available to them to save a trip to the Mail Centre to collect items. Its free Safe Place service allows customers to choose an alternative delivery location for the delivery of parcels when they are not at home. All customers need to do is to nominate a 'Safe Place' on their property which must be accessible and weatherproof or request delivery to a neighbour's property. In addition, customers can also opt for their post person to sign for any items which require a signature upon delivery on their behalf while they’re not at home. Both services can be applied for but if customers wish to make the journey to the Mail Centre they can check first if their parcel is back from its delivery round by using the online function*

From Monday, the self-service Pay and Post kiosk will be in a more prominent position in the Customer Services Centre. The popular kiosk allows customers to beat the queue and quickly and easily purchase stamps, pay utility bills and Government rents in addition to posting items of mail.

Full details of Isle of Man Post Office’s Christmas opening hours and last posting dates will be released week commencing the 6 November via a leaflet drop to all residential properties Island-wide.

In the meantime, the opening hours of Douglas Mail Centre are Mon - Fri: 7am - 7.30pm and Sat: 7am - 12.30pm.

*This service is currently only available for customers in postcodes IM1-4 but is being developed for the rest of the Island.
