Monday, 22 May 2017

Last years energy awardsThe Department of Economic Development has announced the launch of the 2017 Energy Awards and is encouraging local organisations to submit entries.

The awards give recognition to local businesses that have made tangible progress in their efforts to reduce their energy consumption.

Awards are offered for Best Innovation, Best Practice and Biggest Savings with public sector and private sector organisations being judged separately.

Lawrie Hooper MHK, Member for the Department of Economic Development with responsibility for Energy and Clean Tech, said:

‘The aim of the awards is to recognise and celebrate local businesses and organisations that have made significant energy savings in the last year as a result of steps they have made to reduce their energy consumption. We are keen to hear from any organisation that thinks their energy-saving project fits the bill.

‘The Department is fully committed to supporting businesses to become energy efficient as one of its commitments in the Programme for Government to maintaining a “Sustainable Island”. We offer a range of support, including a Green Business Loan Scheme and assistance options through the Business Support Scheme. The awards are a celebration of the companies making those changes and further demonstrate the Department’s aim to support businesses at all stages of growth.’

Previous recipients of awards range from large multi-national firms through to small owner/proprietor businesses.

Last year’s winners made significant savings as a result of projects including updating traditional lighting with LED lights, replacing heating systems with renewable technologies and swapping diesel vehicles for electric ones.

James Vickers, Managing Director at Complete Construction Services Ltd., and winner of last year’s ‘Private Sector – Best Innovation’ award, commented:

‘Complete Construction Services Ltd. is always striving to bring cost effective new technology, sustainable, Eco and Passive solutions to the Isle of Man.  For our work to be recognized with a win in the Energy awards gives great Kudos and further credibility to the work we do.’
