Customs and Excise Bill – Consultation has closed

Tuesday, 28 March 2017

The consultation on the proposed Customs and Excise Bill 2017 closed on 24 March 2017 and the Treasury would like to thank those who made representations in response.

The Bill would make amendments to existing customs and excise legislation, namely the Customs and Excise Management Act 1986 and the Customs and Excise Act 1993, and to the Terrorism and Other Crime (Financial Restrictions) Act 2014 in respect of UN and EU sanctions.

The amendments are intended to ensure that customs legislation continues to be able to cope with existing and anticipated developments, and to meet certain requirements and recommendations following the Moneyval evaluation of the Island in 2016.

A number of suggestions for improvements to the text of the Bill were received and will be carefully considered.

It is intended that the Bill will now be progressed, and introduced into the House of Keys at an early date.
