Chief Minister Howard Quayle MHK has reinforced the Isle of Man’s commitment to maintaining positive links with members of the United Kingdom Parliament.
Mr Quayle addressed a number of key UK politicians yesterday, Monday 6 March, 2017, during a meeting of the British-Manx All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG).
The event continued the programme of engagement with Westminster and the City of London to raise awareness of the Isle of Man’s position on a range of important issues.
The Chief Minister, who was accompanied by Geoffrey Boot MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, thanked members of the APPG for their continued interest in the Island.
He provided an insight into recent developments in the Isle of Man, including an update on our Brexit engagement programme and the progression of new Beneficial Ownership legislation.
The British-Manx APPG comprises MPs and peers from all the main UK political parties and helps to foster good relations between the countries.
The Chief Minister said:
‘The Isle of Man enjoys an excellent working relationship with the UK Parliament and I am keen to enhance those links through the work of the APPG. The meeting in Westminster provided an opportunity to emphasise the Island’s position as a well-regulated and responsible international business centre that makes a significant contribution to the British economy.’
During the visit to London, the Chief Minister and Minister Boot also held positive discussions with Sir Oliver Heald MP, Minister of State for Courts and Justice with responsibility for the Crown Dependencies, and the Rt. Hon. Andrew Parmley, Lord Mayor of the City of London.
