Individuals who are interested in serving the local community and supporting efforts to keep people safe are being encouraged to consider a career in the Isle of Man Constabulary.
The deadline for applications in the latest recruitment drive for Student Constables is Friday 23 September 2016.
The Manx police force offers a challenging and rewarding working environment where no two days are the same. It requires a range of personal skills such as patience, courage, flexibility, understanding and the ability to think and act quickly.
The most recent group of Student Constables has embarked on the 15-week training programme, while officers from a previous intake are out on patrol in the community.
More high-calibre candidates are now being sought to strengthen efforts to maintain the Island’s status as the safest place to live in the British Isles. The selection process for Student Constables involves an initial paper sift of applicants followed by a fitness test, classroom assessment, outdoor assessment centre and a medical. Candidates are assessed in line with the Constabulary’s core values of Caring, Professional, Challenge, Service, Respect and Responsibility.
There continues to be a strong focus on local recruitment as part of carefully managed succession planning within the Manx force. Regular intakes of student officers are needed to feed into the organisation and maintain policing numbers when long-serving officers retire.
Inspector Dave Dobbie said:
‘We are looking to recruit men and women who possess strong values and the right mix of skills to serve the Manx public. I would encourage anybody who is thinking of applying to submit their forms before Friday’s deadline.’
PC Jodie O’Connor, who joined the Isle of Man Constabulary in January 2016, said:
‘I would definitely recommend a career in the Isle of Man Constabulary. Police work is unique and involves dealing with people from all walks of life in a variety of circumstances. When you are out on patrol you never know what incidents you may be called to resolve. Every day is different.’
