Teams ready to tackle Adventure Challenge

Friday, 16 September 2016

Young people will test their athleticism, teamwork and leadership skills later this month when they tackle the 2016 Ellan Vannin Fuels Adventure Challenge.

Teams from the Isle of Man and United Kingdom will take part in a series of activities including sea kayaking, rock climbing and coasteering over the weekend of the 23 to 25 September.

As well as promoting friendly competition and long-term friendships among the participants, the annual event also helps to showcase the Isle of Man as an outstanding venue for adventure sports.

Approximately 120 young people representing youth organisations from across the UK are travelling to the Island to pit their skills against local competitors during a busy weekend of action.

The Adventure Challenge is organised by PC Mike Griffiths in association with the Isle of Man Constabulary’s Police Cadets and sponsor Ellan Vannin Fuels.

Competitors will camp at Ardwhallan Outdoor Education Centre in West Baldwin, which is also hosting a range of challenges designed to gauge physical and mental aptitude, communication and problem solving skills.

A dip in the Irish Sea will be part of the fun when the action switches to the Island’s coastline, while the highlight of the social activities will be a disco at Union Mills AFC clubhouse where the trophies will be presented to the winners.

PC Mike Griffiths, Police Cadet Coordinator, said:

‘This is a tremendous event that continues to grow in popularity and the Isle of Man Police Cadets are looking forward to playing their part in welcoming our visitors. The young people discover a lot about themselves during the challenges and gain confidence and self-belief from the whole experience. It is also a great opportunity to show people what the Isle of Man has to offer. While the emphasis is on having fun, it gets very competitive and I’m sure all the teams will be working hard to come out on top.’

Andy Sweetman, Sales and Marketing Manager at Ellan Vannin Fuels, added:

‘Ellan Vannin Fuels plays an active part in the local community and is proud to be associated with the Adventure Challenge. This event brings together young people from all over the United Kingdom to enjoy the Island’s hospitality and outdoor lifestyle alongside our local teams. I hope the participants make some lasting friendships and our visitors leave with a positive impression of the Island.’

In addition to Ellan Vannin Fuels, the organisers wish to thank the following companies and individuals for their generous support – Tesco, Shoprite, Oddbins and Coca-Cola, E. Oppenheimer & Co., Robinsons, Isle of Man Creamery, Hero and Brearley, Culinary Liberation, Union Mills Football Club, Ace Hite, HSS Hire.Adventure Challenge
