Youth club members benefit from creation of ‘chill room’

New Chill Room At Pulrose Youth ClubThe children of Pulrose have a new ‘chill room’ at their youth club thanks to investment from the Department of Education and Children.

Office space, disused toilets and a cleaner’s cupboard were knocked into a space for young members to relax, with walls removed, doors and heating pipes moved and windows added.

A 50-inch flat screen TV, kindly donated by Specsavers’ Douglas branch, completed the refurbishment.

Tim Crookall MLC, Minister for Education and Children, said: ‘I am delighted the Department has invested in our young people in this way.

‘The youth club is an important part of the Pulrose community and is well attended. Having a chill room where children can relax is a welcome addition to the facilities for Brian Mitchell, the Youth Worker in Charge, and his team, who do great work.

‘I would like to thank the Department of Infrastructure’s Estates Services, their sub-contractors and suppliers for undertaking the conversion work.’

Pulrose offers a junior club for young people in school years 4 to 6, a senior club for school years 7 and above and hosts a teatime club for school years 2 and 3 twice a week.

More than 80 young people a week use the facility.

Brian said new members are welcome.

‘We offer a safe and vibrant environment for children to meet friends and chat with youth workers,’ he said.

‘We provide a host of activities for the young people: sports, arts and crafts, cookery and a dedicated games room with Xbox and PlayStation.

‘We also invite visitors from local organisations and take the children off-site to glens, beaches, parks and places of interest, with the emphasis on exploring nature and being active.’
