Sing for fun at the Friday Lunchtime Choir

Thursday, 6 October 2016

Have you always wanted to sing with others but felt that joining a choir was too forbidding?

The Friday Lunchtime Choir – which meets weekly from 1.15pm for half an hour – would welcome new members as it resumes next week after its summer break.

The choir is run by the Department Education and Children's Music Service and conducted by head of service Maggie Richardson.

She said:

'We have people of varied ages and from many walks of life, who enjoy meeting up once a week to sing for fun in a relaxed setting.

'We aim to sing simple music well, sometimes in unison, sometimes in harmony, depending on the strengths of the members.

'It is best if singers can commit to attend each week but we understand that they might need to miss the occasional practice.

'There is no membership fee, although we ask singers to contribute £1 a week towards the cost of the hire of our venue, the Salvation Army Citadel in Lord Street, and towards sheet music.

'We do occasionally sing in public and our next concert will be a Christmas performance to raise money for the Salvation Army's Christmas Appeal, helping local families.

'If you feel you might enjoy it, come along one Friday and give it a go.'
