The public is asked to be vigilant and report suspicious activity in the Island’s forests, plantations and glens.
The request comes after a number of significant ash trees were illegally felled in Ballaugh Forest and the timber removed – it’s suspected for firewood.
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) says a number of Christmas trees have also been felled and removed from the same location.
This will impact on organisations that rely upon the Department to provide the larger trees for the festive season that are difficult to source locally.
DEFA manages all the Island’s public forests, plantations and national glens and only appointed contractors can legally carry out felling.
David Cretney MLC, Member of DEFA with responsibility for Forestry, Amenity and Lands, said:
