Isle of Man College of Further & Higher Education Awards Ceremony

The Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education celebrated the success of the its students at its annual Awards Ceremony on Friday 20 May 2016 at the Villa Marina.

With more than 100 students being recognised for success in their studies; Award Winners 2016achieving under difficult circumstances or volunteering and helping the community, the ceremony reflects the College’s unique culture and diversity.

Not only is academic achievement acknowledged, but also students’ potential to be Champions of Commerce across all industries, is identified and encouraged.

The College rebranded as the University College Isle of Man (UCM) on the 1 April 2016, making this the last full College awards ceremony under its old name of the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education. As the transition of the College into UCM continues to move forward the future can only be brighter for our up and coming students. UCM aims to offer more courses in Further and Higher education and develop an enhanced student experience. As UCM gains momentum then more students will find success on courses ranging from studying GSCEs to degrees, satisfying the needs of local industry and personal development.

The keynote speech at the awards was given by Geoff Corkish MBE, MLC, a Member of the Department of Education and Children.

He said the skills and knowledge developed at the College are fundamental as the Island continues to diversity and grow its economy.

‘The way education is structured and delivered at the College enables many students to become high achievers and to really make a difference in the workplace. This evening is a celebration of their success, hard work, and achievements.’

On the development of new activities under the UCM, he added that ‘The College has already launched Research Vannin, a hub for research and investigation that can link together employers and students to develop a valuable resource for all businesses and residents.’
