New look for economic report

Friday, 20 May 2016

Government’s quarterly report on the Island’s economy has a new format designed to make it more accessible to a wider audience.

The publication now makes greater use of graphics to present information in a simpler, clearer layout.

The report, compiled for the Council of Ministers with input from across Government, provides a snapshot of the local economy and its various sectors, plus a range of economic indicators and an update on public spending.

The latest report, for the first quarter of 2016, is published today (Friday 20 May 2016) and is available on the Government website at /about-the-government/government/the-council-of-ministers/comin-reports/

It shows that the Island’s economy remains in good health overall, with buoyant employment levels and low unemployment. There are no signs of any increase in population numbers but property prices are up slightly with an annual change of nearly one per cent (0.9 per cent).

The new look quarterly report has been welcomed by Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK, who commented: ‘The economy is the fundamental element of Island life underpinning job opportunities, living standards and public services, so it’s good for people to be provided with a clear view of economic activity and trends to help them see what is happening.

‘This new approach presents the information in a more user-friendly and digestible format which will hopefully enhance public understanding of the importance and direction of our economy.’
