Spending equates to £11,750 per person

Total Government spending projected for 2016/17 equates to around £11,750 per head for every man, woman and child of the Island's population (1*).

This per person figure includes:

  • £3,791 for Social Security payments such as the State Pension, Income Support and Child Benefit, plus £582 for Social Care including £192 for Children’s Services and £390 for Adult Services
  • £2,387 for Health Services, including £231 for providing free or subsidised prescriptions or drugs, and £204 for treating Manx patients in the United Kingdom
  • £1,175 for Education, including £125 for University Fees
  • £945 for former Government employee pensions, of which around £418 comes from current employee contributions
  • £385 for the Police, Fire, Prison and other parts of the Department of Home Affairs
  • £214 for supporting the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture
  • £162 for Public Transport and Heritage Railways
  • £70 for Waste Management, in addition a further £139 raised via local authorities or business charges
  • £68 for Sports and Arts, including subsidising local swimming pools
  • £52 for the Ports, with a further £139 raised in charges

£26 for Drainage and operation of the sewerage system excluding rates
