New single-part driving licence to be introduced

Monday, 15 February 2016

The Department of Infrastructure has announced that it is introducing a single-part driving licence in the Isle of Man.

The new system will replace the existing two-part driving licence, which comprises a photocard and paper section, with effect from Monday 22 February 2016.

Island motorists renewing their driving licence or applying for a new one after 22 February will receive the card-only licence.

The change will bring the Isle of Man into line with most European countries and continues the Department’s efforts to streamline processes.

People do not need to take any action until their current licence expires. The existing two-part licence will continue to be acknowledged and accepted.

Further information about the new system is available in a Frequently Asked Questions section on the Government website

This covers a range of matters, including hiring vehicles abroad, using a driving licence for identification purposes and what will happen to penalty points/endorsements.
