MDAI remains a banned substance

Friday, 23 December 2016

The so called ‘legal high’ MDAI will remain banned in the Isle of Man, but it will cease to be a ‘Class C’ controlled drug, instead becoming a banned psychoactive substance on 1 January 2017.

The specific law banning MDAI, which has been in place since 1 January 2012, is no longer required as the import, export, production and possession with intent to supply of psychoactive substances became illegal on 18 August 2016.  This was a result of an Order by the Treasury, approved by Tynwald, which broadly extended the UK’s Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 to the Isle of Man, meaning a blanket-ban on so called ‘legal highs’.
