European Union Sanctions – Zimbabwe, Belarus and Iran

Monday, 16 November 2015

Following the making of three new Orders on 13 November 2015, further changes have been made to three sanctions regimes.

Iran

The European Union (Iran Sanctions) (Proliferation) (Amendment) (No. 3) Order 2015 [SD 2015/0372] applies in Island law Council Regulation (EU) No 2015/1861.  This Regulation makes further modification of the principal EU Iran sanctions Regulation, Council Regulation (EC) No 267/2012.  However, it should be noted that the amendments will not take effect until the Council of the European Union has confirmed that Iran has taken certain measures specified in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Belarus

The European Union (Belarus Sanctions) (Amendment) Order 2015 [SD 2015/0374] applies in Island law Council Regulation (EU) No 2015/1948.  The new Regulation removes sanctions restrictions from many of those persons and entities previously listed.

Zimbabwe

The European Union (Zimbabwe Sanctions) (Amendment) Order 2015 [SD 2015/0376] applies in Island law Council Regulation (EU) No 2015/1919.  This new Regulation amends Council Regulation (EC) No 314/2004 to amend the criteria for listing persons and entities liable to sanctions, and removes Amos Bernard (Mugenva) Midzi, who died earlier this year, from the sanctions lists.
