The Isle of Man Ship Registry has been awarded certification to the internationally recognised Environmental Management Standard ISO14001 following external assessments by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance.
Approval to ISO14001 validates the Ship Registry’s commitment to pursuing and promoting a ‘green’ agenda as it undertakes its day to day business activities. Globally, there is growing pressure from clients, trading partners and regulators for organisations to demonstrate effective environment management.
Director of the Isle of Man Ship Registry, Dick Welsh, commented:
‘For the Ship Registry this has been the latest approval of the management systems we employ as we strive for continual improvements. Environmental management has been consolidated into our integrated management system to further enhance our performance.
‘By managing our energy usage and waste streams, paper usage and other activities within our scope of operations we can now demonstrate that we are fully engaged with environmental standards and performance.
‘In the same way we led with ISO 9000 ahead of the implementation of quality systems to shipping, so too can we share our experiences with ISO 14001.’
The Department’s political member for the Ship Registry Leonard Singer MHK said:
‘I would like to congratulate the Ship Registry staff for their dedication and hard work in achieving this award.
’The overriding goal of the standard is to improve environmental performance. This certificate demonstrates that the Isle of Man Ship Registry is actively considering its environmental impacts and reducing them wherever possible.’
