Scan for plan initiative

Monday, 29 June 2015

The public can now use smartphones and tablets to be directed to details of planning applications posted around the Island.

Yellow notices are erected at sites that are subject to a planning application.

Notices will now feature a Quick Reference (QR) code – a barcode that, when scanned on a smartphone or tablet, gives the user immediate and direct access to the application information.

The QR code will navigate the viewer directly to Government’s online services where images of the planning application and its supporting information are available to view in a digital format.

Should the viewer wish to comment on the application, they can also do so through online services.

The move by the Planning and Building Control Directorate of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is in line with the Isle of Man Government’s new Digital Strategy.

Richard Ronan MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, said:

‘Through the strategy, the Government is making it easier for those who want to access our services digitally to do so.

‘Smartphone or tablet owners with the QR app can scan the code and be taken straight to full details of the application.

‘This is another step towards assisting our digital customers to access information speedily and conveniently.’
