Refurbishment work at the National Sports Centre, in partnership with the Department of Infrastructure, will encourage even more people to get fit and healthy, as a refit of the gym commences this week.
Carl Glover, General Manager Sports Facilities at the NSC, said:
“Once refurbished the gym will be fully equipped with state of the art Technogym equipment for everyone to use to improve their health and wellbeing through exercise. In particular, the new equipment will be more accessible for people with disabilities.
“The refurbishment will also include replacing the two sauna cabins in the spa suite area, for relaxing after exercise.”
During the gym refurbishment, which is expected to last no more than four weeks, customers can continue using the gym equipment as it will be moved into two of the squash courts. The four remaining courts will remain fully operational for all squash players. No spa facilities will be available for approximately two weeks. The public will be kept up-to-date with progress via notices at the NSC and on social media.
Carl continued:
“The gym facility attracts 45,000 attendances per year from residents and visitors, boosting their health and the Island’s economy.”
The Isle of Man Government’s Strategy for Sport 2014-2024 focuses on increasing the levels of physical activity of all residents, whether regaining fitness after a break from exercise or recovering after illness or injury.
The strategy pledges to develop and improve facilities to encourage more people to get active and stay healthy, with resulting benefits to the economy.

“NSC membership, with no joining fee, is one way to commit to improving activity levels, giving access to the gym, the swimming pool, the running track and the spa suite. Membership offers up to 40% off advertised exercise classes. For customers that don’t want to commit to a membership package there are pay-as-you-go options available.”
