Tynwald is being asked to approve an extension to the life of the Education Council.
The body advises the Department of Education and Children, its members serving as governors of the DEC's 37 schools and the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education.
The DEC plans to bring forward a new Education Bill, possibly in the 2016/17 legislative year. This will be the biggest overhaul of legislation governing education since the 2001 Education Act.
Education Council members are appointed by the Appointments Commission, an independent body established by the Council of Ministers.
Their current, three-year term of office expires in November 2015.
Tim Crookall MLC, Minister for Education and Children, will ask the July sitting of Tynwald to extend their term of office by two years.
The Minister said the new Bill would propose changes to the size and role of the Education Council.
'It would be beneficial if the Department is able to retain the current members as their experience will be invaluable as we finalise the new structure,'
he said.
