London seminar will highlight offshore energy opportunities

Wednesday, 14 January 2015

The Department of Economic Development will be hosting a seminar in London for the Clean Tech/Energy industry later this month to highlight the opportunities within offshore energy that the Isle of Man offers.

The seminar, part of the Rushlight Conference, will feature presentations from the Isle of Man Government’s Director of Energy Policy, Dr Ken Milne, and the preferred developers of the wind and tidal projects within the Isle of Man’s territorial seas.

Representatives from DONG Energy, Manx Tidal Energy Ltd and Tocardo Tidal Energy Ltd will deliver updates on their proposed projects and potential supply chain opportunities.

The seminar will also look at the positioning of the Isle of Man as an ‘Eco Island’ and address future opportunities for clean energy and sustainable power solutions.

Graham Cregeen MHK, the Department’s Member with responsibility for Clean Tech and Energy commented:

‘The seminar is an excellent opportunity for key industry suppliers to learn more about the proposed wind farm and tidal power projects.

‘Pursuing a sustainable and profitable offshore energy hub is a cornerstone of the Isle of Man Government’s Vision2020 strategy and it is important to continue to drive the projects forward this year.

‘The progression of renewable energy projects are anticipated to provide direct income for the Isle of Man Government, including an annual £5 million boost to public funds as well as the creation of local jobs.’

The seminar will take place on Thursday 29 January at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, London. Registration for the event is available at http://www.rushlightevents.com/rushlight-show/isle-of-man-breakfast
