Department publishes housing consultation responses

Wednesday, 9 December 2015

A Government consultation has highlighted broad support for proposals aimed at promoting greater fairness in the allocation of public sector accommodation for older people in the Isle of Man.

Almost 80% of people who completed an online survey conducted by the Department of Infrastructure’s Housing Division agreed that an objective allocation process should be introduced.

The criteria for older persons’ housing was last assessed in 2002. The proposed modernisation of the system would help housing providers to better target resources in line with Government’s national priority of protecting vulnerable members of the community.

The revised process outlined in the consultation would result in a wider initial assessment of eligibility for entry onto the waiting list, with allocation being prioritised on the basis of income and assets, as well as health and wellbeing.

There were 103 responses to the online survey, while the Housing Division also received a number of letters and emails. The summary of responses document is available to view and download on the Government website at /consultations.gov

The Department wishes to thank everybody who submitted their views on this important issue. The consultation feedback will be taken into account during the development of policy recommendations for consideration by the Council of Ministers and Tynwald.
