The annual Sara Killey Memorial Walk was a great success with a record number of participants taking up the challenge and walking the 50 kilometres from Peel Fire Station to Ramsey Fire Station.
175 people started Sunday’s event, including many who are training for the Parish Walk in June. In doing so, the competitors helped to raise more than £3,500 for the Firefighters Charity, which provides various types of assistance to serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.
First over the finishing line was Richard Gerrard, completing the course in 4 hours 46 minutes, with Richard Wild second in 5 hours, 5 minutes and David Walker third in 5 hours, 10 minutes.
Fourth place overall and first female finisher was Michelle Turner in 5 minutes 17 seconds. The first firefighter to finish was a dead heat between Peter Cain and Alan Teare from Peel Fire Station, with Keith Lowe from Kirk Michael Fire Station third.
This event could not have happened without the help and volunteers from the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service and the Civil Defence.
