The Isle of Man has today (Wednesday 15 October) hosted a meeting of the British-Irish Council’s Environment Group.
Ministers and officials from neighbouring administrations gathered in Douglas to discuss a range of environmental topics including biodiversity, the impact of non-native species and the role the consumer can play in developing economies and protecting natural resources.
Richard Ronan MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, said:
‘It was a pleasure to welcome our guests to the Isle of Man. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to share information on the environmental challenges we face and to discuss innovative measures for managing our natural resources sustainably.’
The British-Irish Council (BIC), established under the terms of the Good Friday peace agreement, is the only international forum comprising the governments of the UK, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey.
It plays an important role in developing positive links between member countries and provides a platform for consultation and co-operation on matters of mutual interest.
