Clarification - National Insurance for the over 70s

Friday, 9 May 2014

During the House of Keys sitting on 6 May 2014 the Treasury Minister, Eddie Teare MHK, said, when answering a supplementary question on National Insurance contributions:

‘Employers do carry on paying, I think it is up to age 70, for people who are beyond retirement age.’

The Treasury Minister wishes to confirm that there is no upper age limit for employers to stop paying National Insurance contributions for their employees and has apologised for any confusion his remarks in the House of Keys may have caused.

Should employers have any questions concerning the rates or rules relating to National Insurance they should contact the Income Tax Division on +44 1624 685400.
