Island to host meeting of Crown Dependencies

Friday, 31 January 2014

The three Chief Ministers from the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands will get together in Douglas next week when the Island hosts a trilateral meeting of the Crown Dependencies.

Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK will welcome his counterparts from Jersey and Guernsey, Senator Ian Gorst and Deputy Peter Harwood, when they arrive on Thursday (February 6) for a two-day visit.

The trilateral meetings take place on a regular basis, providing the Crown Dependencies with a forum for discussion in addition to their interaction around the British-Irish Council.

Mr Bell commented:

‘Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are commercial rivals in a number of areas and each of us has our own identity and interests. However, we have many issues in common, particularly on the international front, and it is always useful to share views and experiences with our colleagues in the Channel Islands.’

He added:

‘When I became Chief Minister I was keen for the trilateral meetings to be reinstated. During a period of major external changes affecting the Crown Dependencies it is vitally important that we keep talking to each other and work together wherever possible.’
