Independent Living Centre to extend opening hours

Wednesday, 29 January 2014

The Independent Living Centre, operated by the Department of Health’s Community Occupational Therapy Service, is altering and extending the opening hours from February 2014.

The Centre will open every Wednesday from 10:00am to 2:30pm. There is no need to book – members of the public can just drop in. For those who are unable to attend this drop-in session, appointments can be arranged on request. To make an appointment, please telephone + 44 1624 642561.

The Independent Living Centre, which has been operating since August 2011, provides a ‘one stop shop’ where people who are finding everyday tasks difficult can receive free professional assessment, impartial information and advice from Occupational Therapy staff. Over 200 patients have visited the Centre since it opened.

The Centre includes a large range of demonstration equipment to assist with daily living tasks – including meal preparation, showering, using the stairs and getting out of bed. Equipment cannot be purchased from the Centre but staff can help to identify the right equipment, provide information on cost and advice on local sources of provision and funding when purchasing equipment.

The Occupational Therapy specialist staff can provide advice on a range of disability related issues. The Centre also holds a large information database on local organisations, service providers and charities providing support across the Island.
