DEFA Minister Phil Gawne has announced the formation of a Coastal Erosion Working Group that will seek options to slow the rate of erosion on the Kirk Michael Coastline, specifically in the Glen Wyllin area.
Minister Gawne said:
'I share people’s concerns over the continued erosion on the north western coastline and following discussions with Michael MHK Alfred Cannan I am pleased to be able to form a Working Group to seek cost effective solutions to slow the erosion in the area. Coastal erosion is a difficult problem to resolve and we must be careful that we don’t simply move the problem further up the coast. I have written to Michael Commissioners to ask them to work with us in the Group and also to suggest further local community representation.'
MHK Alfred Cannan said:
'I have been campaigning for action on this matter since I was elected and I am pleased and grateful that the Minister has recognised this worsening problem on the Kirk Michael Coastline. I hope that the working group are able to find and implement some positive solutions in the year ahead.'
