Issue of Guidance Note by the European Commission

The European Commission has published a guidance note in question and answer format on the implementation of certain provisions of Council Regulation (EU) No 833/2014, and designed to ensure a uniform implementation of the prohibitions and restrictions involved by the various national authorities and other parties involved.

The Regulation has been applied in Island law, and therefore the guidance has general application in the Island, providing answers to certain questions that have been brought to the attention of the European Commission.  It therefore may be of interest and use for anyone who considers that they may be affected by the Regulation as it has effect in the Island.

Please note that –

  • the publication of the guidance note has no effect on the lists of those persons and entities subject to financial sanctions;
  • the guidance may be revised, replaced or deleted in the future; and
  • the guidance is for general assistance only, and anyone who considers that they may be affected by the sanctions measures should seek legal advice and/or contact Customs and Excise.

The guidance note may be found at http://europa.eu/newsroom/files/pdf/c_2014_9950_en.pdf
