Promising EIG event for Isle of Man

Tuesday, 15 October 2013

The Department of Economic Development has reported great interest in the Isle of Man at the 12th European i-gaming congress and expo (EIG) which was held last week in Barcelona.

CEO of e-Gaming Development for the Department of Economic Development Peter Greenhill commented:

'The event went even better than we expected. Our stand was very busy and we engaged with several firms who wanted to discuss relocating their operations to the Isle of Man as well as with new operator entrants to the market.

'The Department's excellent relationship with the local industry was reinforced in Barcelona. We were superbly supported by Isle of Man businesses, corporate service providers, lawyers, accountants and data centres demonstrating how well the public and private sectors are working together to help the Isle of Man's economy continue to grow.

'The hard work for us continues now as we work with our private sector partners to turn this strong interest into new jobs in both the licensed e-Gaming sector and the broader e-Business sector.'

EIG is now firmly established as one of the leading gaming events in the world and organisers indicated that attendance was up on previous years.

Peter Greenhill continued:

‘With the e-Gaming sector forming a significant part of the Isle of Man’s wider e-Business sector, which now accounts for approximately 2000 local jobs and 13% of National Income, it is vital that the Isle of Man has a strong, effective presence at these events.’

Political Member with responsibility for e-Gaming Howard Quayle MHK commented:

'EIG provided us with an excellent opportunity to promote the Isle of Man and to network in order to renew and extend our contacts with the most influential law firms, accountants, bankers and consultants to the industry who advise their clients on which jurisdictions they should set up in.

This work is vital in establishing and growing our pipeline of potential inward investment so I am very encouraged to hear that the event has gone so well for us.’
