Below is a summary of the air traffic using Isle of Man Airport during April 2013 when a 1.69% increase was recorded. Passengers rose by 943 to 56,860. The following points should be noted:
- The 1.7% increase followed an increase in passengers in March of 6%. The large increase in March followed by a moderate rise in April was due to the changing dates of the Easter holiday travel period. In 2012, this was predominantly in April and in 2013, it was in March.
- Thus an average increase for the two months was 3.85% which provides a better indication of the growth in passenger traffic at the Airport.
- 5 routes showed increases: Liverpool, London (Gatwick), London City Dublin and Norwich (which did not operate in April 2012). All other routes showed falls: Scottish routes saw high traffic drops – 641 passengers or 32% overall – and with the loss of the Leeds service, North East traffic fell by about the same number.
- London market
- London Gatwick was over 13% up with Flybe recording a 3,840 passenger decrease in April, but easyJet adding almost 5,500 passengers.
- The London City route ceased operating in early April 2012. As a result, London City passenger numbers increase in April 2013 by 3,400 compared with April 2012. Many of the passengers transferred to the Flybe Gatwick route, significantly boosting traffic on the route in April 2012.
- Hence the London City route has recorded a 326% increase in passengers in April 2013 whilst the Flybe Gatwick service decreased by 31%. Luton also decreased by over 50%, but overall London traffic in April 2013 was up by over 4,000 passengers, or 26%.
- North West market
- Overall the North West saw a decrease of just under 3%, this being due to the difference in the Easter holiday travel dates compared with 2012.
- Manchester and Blackpool both decreased, whilst Liverpool was 3.7% up.
