The Fabulous Baker Brothers to attend the 5th Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival

Thursday, 16 May 2013

Television personalities the Fabulous Baker Brothers – one a baker, the other a chef and butcher - will be the major attraction at this year?s Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival on the weekend of September 21 and 22.

The two-day event, now in its 5th year with Manx Gas once again the main sponsor, will be held in the Villa Marina Gardens in Douglas.

Brothers Tom and Henry Herbert found fame in 2012 with their hit Channel 4 television series followed by a Christmas Special and accompanying book, 'The Fabulous Baker Brothers'. Their second series was broadcast on digital channel More4 and they have published a second book, 'The Fabulous Baker Brothers Glorious British Grub'.

The brothers are also pursuing their own food related careers. A year after leaving baking college, Tom, 35, won 'Young Baker of the Year' and is passionate about bread making. A fifth generation baker, he is very much involved with the family business, Hobbs House Bakery in Chipping Sodbury, which has won many prestigious awards and featured in the Independent's top 50 food shops.

Henry, 25, trained as a chef and believes in carefully sourced, good quality seasonal ingredients. He now runs a butchery next door to the family bakery. He champions old recipes and their place in culture whilst advocating new ways to cook and present meat.

Food Minister, Phil Gawne, said:

“the 5th Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival promises to be a really exciting event and I?m looking forward to seeing what the Fabulous Baker Brothers choose to cook, using local Manx produce. It?s been a difficult time for farmers but I?m sure that the Festival will once again showcase the excellent quality and diversity of food and drink produced here. I?m sure that many people will once more visit the Festival to show their support for Manx produce and have a great day out!”

Gary Cregeen, sales and marketing manager at Manx Gas said:

“Manx Gas is again delighted to sponsor a Festival that pulls together so many sectors of the community and which, over the past five years, has become a highly successful event. It is a Festival which not only includes farmers, bakers, butchers and retailers but enthusiastic consumers who value the local provenance of the food and drink on offer.”
