Isle of Man Airport Monthly Air Traffic Summary February 2013

Below is a summary of the air traffic using Isle of Man Airport during February 2013 when a marginal 0.11% decrease, or just 57 passengers was recorded. The following points should be noted:

• The reduction of 0.11% was against a forecast 1.4% decrease for February 2013 over February 2012.
• The month of February 2013 was actually one day shorter than the leap year of February 2012. This is a 3.45% decrease in days and thus the like-for-like comparison would be for a 3.3% increase for the month.
• Overall only 3 routes showed increases: Liverpool, Gatwick and London City. However these virtually made up for the reduced passengers on other routes.
• The month suffered from a number of suspended and cut-back services. Citywing suspended their Oxford and Leeds services and Flybe their Luton service in early January and Bristol for the winter. Blue Islands have ceased altogether their Jersey route from IOM. The Luton and Bristol routes are expected to restart at the end of March, but Oxford and Leeds will operate only during TT. These services generated almost 2,660 passengers in February 2012 and, in February 2013, just 15 were carried.
• In addition, the Southampton route that operated in January 2012, but not January 2013, generated over 900 passengers last year. This route will return three times weekly from May 2013.
• These route withdrawals and suspensions generated over 3,560 passengers in February 2012, which constitutes almost 7% the February 2012 total traffic.
• The North West routes saw a 2.2% increase with Liverpool increasing by almost 9%. EasyJet has increased frequency on their Liverpool route over the winter and this has stimulated traffic.
• London traffic increased by almost 3,200 passengers, a 23.6% increase with Gatwick up by 40%. This was due to the new easyJet Gatwick operation generating 4,350 passengers, with a decrease of Flybe Gatwick traffic of just 750 passengers.
• Overall, the trend is that 2013 is pacing, or slightly ahead of 2012.
