New Chief Executive Officer appointed

A new Chief Executive Officer has been appointed for the Department of Education and Children.

Professor Ronald Barr has been appointed to the head the Department, which has a workforce of some 2183 deployed across 72 centres, plus more than 500 supply and relief staff. He will have responsibility for the Island’s 38 schools, the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education and the education improvement, services for children, corporate services, finance, youth and estates divisions.

A decision will be made in the next few days with regard to a transition plan for his move from his current role of Principal at Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education. He will succeed Stuart Dobson, who retires at the end of August after a 40-year career in education, eight of them with the Department of Education and Children. Mr Dobson has been CEO since January 2011 and was previously Senior Adviser and then Deputy Director of Education.
