Review of treatment for a number of breast cancer patients at Noble's Hospital

Monday, 21 January 2013

The Medical Director at Noble’s Hospital, Mr Stephen Upsdell, has announced that the Hospital is currently undertaking a review of a number of patients who are receiving treatment for breast cancer. The issue is not with the diagnosis of breast cancer, which is correct in all cases, but with the subsequent hormone testing of tissue which is carried out to decide the appropriate additional treatment for individual patients with breast cancer. Currently, 22 patients have been identified as being affected. They are being contacted directly by the Hospital and are being invited to attend a clinic appointment to discuss their ongoing treatment with the Breast Care Team.

It is likely that a similar number of further patients will be identified by the end of the review. They will also need to attend for a clinic appointment.

Mr Upsdell said:

'Caring for patients is our priority and we appreciate that some patients and their families will be concerned by the fact that their current treatment may need to be reviewed. Noble’s Hospital is acting on the basis of information as it becomes available and all affected patients will be seen as quickly as possible. Patients who have immediate queries are asked to call +44 1624 651300 between 9am and 6pm to arrange a telephone discussion with a member of the Breast Care Team.'
