GPs meet together for quarterly Education Session

Friday, 6 December 2013

Issued in conjunction with the GP Sub-Committee of the Isle of Man Medical Society.

The need for GPs to keep up to date with the latest developments in medicine is vitally important in order to provide the highest quality of care to patients. In order to continue their professional education and development, the GPs, in liaison with the Department of Health, are taking part in ongoing quarterly Education Sessions. These sessions give all GPs the opportunity to meet together, to share good practice, and to learn new skills.

The next GP Education Session will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 11 December 2013.

Each of the Island’s GP Practices will remain open during the afternoon for patients who wish, for example, to make appointments, collect test results or order repeat prescriptions. Practice Nurses will be working as usual. Provision has been made for any patient who is in need of urgent GP attention to be seen by an on-call GP in a similar way to out of hours cover. Any patient needing urgent attention should telephone their usual GP practice in the first instance.

Patients are asked to support this important programme by only contacting their surgery to consult with a doctor during the afternoon of the 11 December if they have an urgent need that cannot wait until the following morning.
