Fair Access to Care Services and Charging results

Tuesday, 6 August 2013

The Department of Social Care would like to thank all those who took part in the recent consultation on Fair Access to Care Services and Charging.

A report detailing the results of the consultation is available at:

The Minister for Social Care Hon Chris Robertshaw MHK said:

'The consultation proposals were developed to promote greater consistency, transparency and equity around the way we assess and charge for adult care services. The aims are in line with outcomes of the social policy debate, more specifically;
  • Better targeting of scarce public funds towards those in greatest need
  • Encourage greater self-sufficiency
  • Seek alternative approaches to giving more assistance rather than financial support, and
  • Create stricter controls
Although the number of responses to the consultation was low I am confident that there is significant support for the principles underpinning these developments, particularly as they mirror so closely the themes of the social policy debate consultation. I know that, for many, responding to a consultation takes a significant amount of time and effort and I want to thank you for your contribution.
The consultation indicates significant support for the proposals. We will now move forward towards developing the systems and processes that will support the new assessment and charging framework within adult services and hope to implement the changes from November 2013.'
