3rd February 2010 Beware of visiting tradersIsland residents are being warned by the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading to be wary of traders calling unannounced at their homes offering to sell goods such as mattresses and carpets. Off-Island traders wishing to operate in this way require a non-resident traders licence issued by the Office before they can do so. The traders may use business cards giving the impression that they are locals when they are not. Although they will generally be in vans registered in the UK or Ireland, it is not unknown for them to use or hire Manx-registered vans to reinforce the impression that they are locals. Anyone who has been visited by such a trader within the last few weeks is urged to contact the Office as soon as possible on 686500.
