Bank 'Scam'

The OFT is warning consumers of several “scams” which are currently circulating all claiming to be from local banks.

The most recent, which comes in the form of an e-mail, claims that “Your e-Document is now available for your view. Certain changes have been made to your online banking access. To avoid service interruption download below to access your document and changes.”

Consumers are warned to be suspicious of any sort of unsolicited email, letter or phone call even if they are being offered something that is of interest to them.

If consumers have lost money as a result of any such scams they are urged to cease all contact immediately and contact the local police on 631212.

Protect your financial information - never give your bank account or card details to someone you aren’t satisfied is legitimate.

If you are in any doubt, it is always best to log on to your online banking service via your usual method and communicate with the bank directly through the known site. Alternatively, contact your bank via the telephone numbers provided on your bank statement.
