The aims of the Welfare section of the Health, Safety and Welfare Division of Office of Human Resources are to support Government staff in the protection of their own health and well being, to encourage individuals to recognise and accept responsibility for their own welfare and to facilitate good working relationships between managers and individuals.
These aims are achieved by providing the following services to all Government staff:
- confidential staff support services
- liaison with other support services in the public, private and voluntary sectors
- facilitation for improvement in workplace relationships
The Staff Welfare Service is provided for all Government employees, including the staff of Home Affairs, by Liz Kimber, Karen Quayle and Claire Gray.
We are members of the Institute of Welfare and work within the Institute of Welfare Officers Code of Ethics. Staff Welfare offers a service which is based on trust and discretion and operates under a strict code of confidentiality within the requirements of the law.
We can be contacted by telephone or e-mail. When we are with clients or at appointments out of the office - such as home visits which are offered to those who are ill - a voice mail message can be left in confidence. Any messages left on the answer machine are only accessed by the Staff Welfare Officers and we try to get back to you within 24 working hours.
The first appointment will be an assessment session and this will be made as soon as possible.
At the assessment the options for help and support will be discussed. Sometimes these discussions will include the options of support from other helping agencies if this is considered appropriate.
If agreed, further appointments will be made at the assessment session, usually within three weeks of the assessment. Appointments normally last between 45 minutes and an hour.
