The Department of Trade and Industry intends to amend the Electricity Act 1996.
This consultation document sets out the proposed contents of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2009 that is promoted by the Department of Trade and Industry.
The Electricity Act 1996 – (as amended by the Electricity (Amendment) Act 2001 and the Gas and Electricity Act 2003) – contains statutory powers for the Manx Electricity Authority (MEA) to operate and provides the legal framework for its activities.
The proposed Bill is necessary in order to clarify some accounting matters within the Electricity Act 1996 and address certain wayleave matters which concern the Authority’s powers to lay gas transmission pipelines

Work Permit ReformReview of the Control of Employment Regulations 1993

The Department intends to modernise existing work permit legislation and to this end is undertaking a formal review of the Control of Employment Act Regulations 1993 made under the Control of Employment Act 1975. The existing Regulations have not been amended since 1995.

In November 2009 the Department published a 'Review of Comments Relating to Exemptions' and announced that it was submitting the 'Control of Employment (Exemptions) Order 2009' to Tynwald in December 2009.

Fees for work and services carried out by the IOM Ship RegistryMerchant Shipping (Fees) Regulations 2009

The Isle of Man Ship Registry (DTI) sets out annually the fees to be charged during the next financial year(2009)for any work or services carried out by its officers. Powers to do so are set down in The Merchant Shipping(Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1996 and Treasury Concurrence is required before the regulations are approved by Tynwald.
