Monaco Yacht Show 2010

The 20th Annual Monaco Yacht Show continued to maintain its reputation as the world’s premier yachting event, an ideal place to show off your yacht and network with the people that matter in the yachting industry.

Over 28,000 visitors attended the exhibition in addition to the 500 major exhibitors, each belonging to their own particular field of luxury yachting, together with 100 yachts in the show ranging from 25 to 90 metres in length.

The Isle of Man Ship Registry occupied its usual stand in the ‘Darse Sud’ area which was manned by Isle of Man Ship Registry staff together with Mr A Downie, MLC, the Department of Economic Development’s political member with responsibility for shipping.

The stand was visited by a number of prospective clients, lawyers, old friends and representatives from the Isle of Man. The show was much busier than last year and a number of clients confirmed their interest in registering their yachts under the Isle of Man flag which totalled 7 commercial yachts and 1 80 metre pleasure yacht.

Discussions also took place with a new shipyard seeking to do business with the Isle of Man Ship Registry and a yacht management company seeking to establish a presence on the Island.

Dick Welsh, Director, said: “the Monaco Yacht Show is the one to be at to ensure the Isle of Man remains a world leader in the superyacht industry - which is becoming increasingly competitive with more and more flags undertaking superyacht registrations . This was evidenced by the number of Isle of Man registered yachts in the show, a total of 14, with a larger number anchored off the port of Monaco”.

The Isle of Man was also represented by a large contingent of CSPs, bankers, lawyers, yacht representatives and accountants, which numbered around 60 people, which stresses the importance of this yacht show to the Isle of Man’s business community.
